The Green Bay Packers have won three playoff games in the Matt LaFleur era and just can't seem to find their footing when the postseason rolls around. After losing Micah Parsons to a torn ACL in their Week 15 loss to the Denver Broncos, the wheels officially fell off this ride, as the Packers limped into the postseason.

And it's not like they didn't also have other major injuries. For the third year in a row, though, the Packers were the NFC's no. 7 playoff seed, which does make you wonder just how good this team can be under Matt LaFleur, who is a winning head coach. After the fourth quarter collapse against the Chicago Bears, many Packers' fans were calling for LaFleur to be fired.

Those who might want LaFleur gone surely have an argument, as this franchise has a higher standard than most teams, and in the LaFleur era, which began back in 2019, the team has not won multiple games in the playoffs. He has a 3-6 record, so perhaps there is a clear ceiling with him, but some major news breaking on Monday indicates that his future with the team could not be more clear.

The Packers plan on keeping Matt LaFleur and are working on a new deal

Dropping from NFL insider Adam Schefter on Monday, the Green Bay Packers are expected to keep Matt LaFleur as the head coach for the future:

LaFleur owns a 76-40-1 record as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, which includes four double-digit winning seasons and six winning seasons in seven years. He's won over 65% of his regular season games, averaging just over 11 wins per year.

There aren't many coaches who have won as much in the regular season as Matt LaFleur has, but the 3-6 playoff record is forgettable. In the coming years, the Packers are going to have to make a deeper playoff push, or the calls to fire LaFleur will only grow.

The roster talent really isn't the issue, either - sure, the secondary could use a little bit of a boost, but the Packers have continually fielded top-10 rosters. While the veteran head coach does deserve this extension, this is also likely a 'last shot' type of deal where he simply has to lead the Packers deep into the playoffs.

If not, it would be quite obvious that he's got a rather low ceiling as a head coach in this league. While the extension will keep him under contract for another few years in all likelihood, it doesn't mean he has a ton of job security.
