The Green Bay Packers' hopes for contending in the 2026 season may hinge almost entirely on the availability of pass rusher Micah Parsons, as the All-Pro dynamo is working his way back from a serious knee injury that cut his Green Bay debut short.

While Parsons is likely going to miss the first few games of the season to make sure that he can get back to top speed without any hitches in his plan. The most recent update makes it seem like Green Bay will need to grit their teeth to get through a few games before they can get No. 1 back on the field.

According to Matt Schniedman of The Athletic, Parsons is expected to miss the first three or four games of the 2026 season. He is also expected to avoid the PUP list in training camp, which could lead to him getting back on the field sooner rather than later after his injury.

Packers EDGE Micah Parsons expected to miss 3-4 games in 2026

Parsons lived up to every bit of the hype after arriving in Green Bay following a monstrous trade with the Dallas Cowboys. With 12.5 sacks in 14 games, Parsons was named a First Team All-Pro performer despite missing a few games and playing alongside some subpar pass rushers.

Green Bay's defensive line without Parsons went from an area of weakness to a critical problem that can uproot what this team is trying to build. Rashan Gary is now in Dallas, Lukas Van Ness has not taken a step forward, and Javon Hargrave is not enough to supplement these losses.

The Packers will assuredly try to add a defensive star at some point in the 2026 NFL Draft, but with the Parsons trade depriving them of the ammunition needed to bring in a no-doubt starter, the Packers may need to shop at the bargain bin to find a Parsons stand-in and a Gary replacement.

If Parsons comes back healthy, and Green Bay is able to use a Top 100 pick on a pass rusher, a defensive coordinator that has a history of whipping some suspect defenses into shape like Jonathan Gannon might be able to guide this team to a respectable ranking.

Parsons looking like someone fresh off a major injury, however, would be a such a blow to this team that it is hard to imagine a world where they end up in the Super Bowl tier.
