Green Bay Packers fans already knew. Rich Bisaccia's special teams unit keeps falling short of expectations, year after year.
Matt LaFleur needed to find a new special teams coach after their playoff exit in January. Bisaccia's unit missed a field goal, fumbled on a kick return, and got fooled by a trick play on a punt-return touchdown — and that was in the final two games of last season alone.
LaFleur ignored the flashing warning lights and instead handed Bisaccia a contract extension. It's only Week 3, but that decision has already spiraled into disaster. The Packers' miserable fourth-down play once again cost them on Sunday.
"Rich Bisaccia's special teams, what do we do here? That's a joke. That's a f'in joke," said Andy Herman of Packer Report. "This is not some crazy scheme that Cleveland came up with to block a kick at the end. It's a dude rushing off the end."
Beautifully said. And the worst part? They were just as bad last week.
Packers' special teams deliver another embarrassing performance, and this time it costs them
The Packers keep playing with fire, and this time they got burned.
In last week's win over the Washington Commanders, Bisaccia's unit allowed a 50-yard kick return and a 24-yard punt return. The Packers, meanwhile, returned three punts for one yard. Oh, and they missed a field goal.
Not every mistake falls on Bisaccia, but when they keep happening over and over again, it's fair to ask what's going on. As Herman pointed out, the Browns didn't come up with a creative design to block the kick. It was just a player rushing off the edge with nobody trying to block him. Tucker Kraft just stood and watched.
The Packers almost had another kick blocked earlier in the game.
It's painful. History continues to repeat itself. LaFleur is a fantastic head coach with an undeniable win-loss record, but he is always a year or two late when it comes to making coaching changes. He stuck with Joe Barry for far too long, and the same story is playing out with Bisaccia.

The Packers paid Bisaccia a lot of money to fix the special teams woes. They even went out and brought in core special teams players, like Keisean Nixon, Zayne Anderson, and Eric Wilson. None of it worked.
LaFleur ignored the concerns and doubled down by extending Bisaccia's contract. Packers fans already knew, and now LaFleur is learning a harsh lesson.
