We've got a live one!

Thursday night's Lions-Packers game always looked like it was going to be a doozy. The NFC North is probably (definitely?) the best division in football, and the Packers are more-or-less fighting for their division title lives in Detroit. In-division games always bring a little extra excitement – especially this time of year – but we very rarely, if ever, get a Thursday Night Football game featuring two of the best teams in the league.

And because the NFL is just an unbeatable juggernaut of a product, the game started living up to the hype before anyone even started playing. All my common sense tells me that the NFL isn't scripted, but nights like tonight sure make that hard to fully believe all the time. If everyone was secretly in on the extremely lucrative bit, I don't think I'd want to know one way or the other. But [clears throat, does best Bob Costas] these two franchises simply don't like each other, and that spilled over into the pregame ceremonies.

Matt LaFleur and a Lions fan had to be separated minutes before Thursday Night Football kickoff

Right before pregame coverage from NFL network ended, cameras cut to what was happening on the field in the leadup to kickoff. And, as it turns out, what was happening on the field was Matt LaFleur getting in a Lions fan's face. And Matt LaFleur saying some very choice things to said Lions fan's face. And then the Lion fan tried to antagonize a bunch of Packers players? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, and yet somehow I still am.

This is The Good Stuff. A little pregame jawing never hurt anyone. I can't imagine how annoying it is to be preparing to coach a professional football game and have one of the flag carriers start yapping at you. If we've seen anything from football over the last few weeks, it's that jawing at each other is fine, but planting flags at midfield is not.
