Matthew Golden's first Packers 'catch' wasn't on anyone's bingo card

It'll be tough for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden to forget his first NFL catch, but he'll have to wait until the regular season for that official moment to unfold.

In the meantime, Golden's first "catch" with the team happened to come at the charity softball game put on by quarterback Jordan Love.

Undrafted rookie safety Jonathan Baldwin hit a fly ball which ended up in the glove of Golden as fans cheered on the first-round pick.

Of course, the softball game certainly had its moments. But, when it came time for the players to speak, that's when the fans really pay attention. Love caught up with reporters after the game who asked him about his first-round wide receiver.

"He's a great dude. I'm excited to see his potential on the football field," the quarterback told Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

"Just the start we’ve had … he looks like a stud, looks like a very polished receiver," Love noted.

The fact that Love called Golden a "polished" wide receiver is notable, to say the least. It's been easy for critics to point out Golden's 40-yard dash time as his best trait and acknowledge that, sometimes, an ultra-fast 40 time doesn't necessarily guarantee success as a pro.

Yes, Golden's 4.29 was one of the fastest at this year's Combine. But, he is clearly out to prove that he's more than just a fast wide receiver. Garnering the praise of Love as a "polished" wideout should put any early doubts to rest about the Texas product.

The real test comes when pads are on and the Packers are going up against real-life competition on the field. But, for now, it is assuring to hear that Golden has impressed the starting quarterback thus far.
