As far as offseason rumors are concerned, the Maxx Crosby ones were particularly fun. Crosby's one of the elite edge-rushers in football, and it sure seemed for a few weeks there like he was set on leaving Las Vegas after yet another wasted season with the Raiders.
That, of course, led to some particularly spicy trade rumors. One of the teams that desperately needs some edge-rushing help happens to play in Green Bay, and the idea of the Packers landing Crosby -- and keeping him off the Lions -- felt almost too good to be true.
And as we've come to find out over the last week or so, that's because it was. The Raiders went and hired Pete Carroll this offseason, who used his introductory press conference to plead (more-or-less) with Crosby to stay and be a foundational piece in the Carroll Era in Vegas.

Carroll was apparently pretty convincing, because on Jim Gray's podcast -- that Crosby co-hosts sometimes? -- the Raiders edge rusher had a lot of good things to say about the hire, and what's taking place in Vegas.
It sure doesn't sound like Maxx Crosby is trying to leave the Raiders
"The main things that (Carroll) talked about is, we're going right now," Crosby said. "We're not wasting time. That's the one thing he mentioned to me after his press conference. We're going to get this thing rolling. So, it's exciting. That's my mentality every year. I want to win every year. That's the competition in me, and I see that in him. I feel like everybody, from the new ownership group, from (owner) Mark (Davis), everybody's on the same mindset when it comes to attacking this new regime."
The good news is that Crosby is saying absolutely nothing of substance here.
It's the most podcast talking point of all podcast talking points. "We're going right now" is the type of buzzwordy catchphrase that consulting groups dream of. Maybe Crosby is truly revitalized by Carroll's plan for the Raiders, or maybe he's just trying to not create headlines. We'll never know! So keep dreaming about that Packers trade.
