The Green Bay Packers could absolutely use another viable player in the cornerback room, and one just fell right into their laps.

No one would dispute that their CB room could still use some improvement, and it would be a disaster if that's the one thing that kept this team from ascending to elite status, as you get the sense that Green Bay has never been closer to being at the top of the NFL with this young team.

Well, as roster cuts across the NFL happen, there have already been some shocking names to hit the open market, and for the Packers, a no-brainer target at cornerback just became available and would make all the sense in the world.

Dane Jackson was cut on Tuesday and could be a great fit for the Packers

Dane Jackson, a veteran cornerback who has played for the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers, was released on Tuesday:

Jackson, only 28, played the first four years of his career for Buffalo before signing with Carolina for 2024. Across his career, he's got three interceptions, 30 passes defended, and 175 total tackles. Over the first three years of his career, he allowed a stingy 80.8 passer rating when in coverage, which is a stellar mark.

At this point in the offseason, the Packers are not going to find a starting-caliber CB, but with Keisean Nixon and Nate Hobbs in line to start, and Carrington Valentine and Bo Melton slated to back them up, a reliable fifth CB is necessary for this team.

With how good this team could be in the 2025 NFL season, it would be flat-out irresponsible for GM Brian Gutekunst to not look to shore up a weaker, shakier unit. If the Packers hope to contend for the NFC North title in 2025, getting a high-end depth piece on the team at a position of need has to happen.
