The Green Bay Packers don't have a major need at tight end, but that doesn't mean they aren't open to adding depth. That could include one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite Packers teammates, Marcedes Lewis.
While appearing on the Up & Adams Show, the former Packers tight end was asked by Kay Adams if he'd "welcome a return to Lambeau." He discussed how, when he left to sign with division rival Chicago, the Packers were trying to get younger by trading Aaron Rodgers and moving on from key players, and he didn't play into that. Lewis did seem open to the idea, however, and even mentioned that he talked about it with Matt LaFleur.
"Obviously Matt [LaFleur] is one of my best friends now, he FaceTimed me last week and we were kind of talking about [a reunion]... It's really out of his hands, you know? And I understand the business side of it," Lewis said. "I feel like it ended a little too soon in Green Bay... it was just a lot going on."
Marcedes Lewis said he's talked to Matt LaFleur about rejoining Packers
As noted, the Packers don't really need help at tight end, considering they have Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave as their one and two options. That being said, Lewis is a solid blocker, and there's a reason he's stuck around in the NFL for as long as he has, and that's that he's a good teammate.
Aaron Rodgers and Lewis remained close despite not playing together anymore, attending events together and staying in touch. If the Packers brought Lewis back, it could be another "ha ha" moment from the team to Rodgers as he decides what he's going to do next.
Lewis just turned 41 years old, so he's not exactly the fountain of youth, but again, he's well-liked by his teammates, is a good blocker, and making this move could be another thorn in Rodgers' side as he continues to struggle outside of Green Bay. Lewis did say that it's not up to LaFleur to make the decision, but maybe he'll have some pull here and can bring a fan favorite back to Green Bay.
