The Green Bay Packers are still looking for depth at the wide receiver position and have added a tantalizing prospect to the room. Over the weekend, the Packers were awarded wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. off of waivers.
Hilton was released by the Washington Commanders last week and now makes the move to Green Bay, where he'll look to make a name for himself on the roster. At face value, it looks like the addition of Hilton could be to bolster a room that has seen some of its depth go down during training camp.
As the Packers continue to ramp up for the regular season, starting wide receivers Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden were sidelined with injuries to start the week. Hilton would present a nice new face to join in and give some of the vets some time to rest, in that regard. However, Hilton's history and skills point to a player who could potentially make a name for himself on the roster.

Hilton played for five years at LSU from 2021-25, after a star-studded high school career that saw him ranked 58th overall in 247Sports' class of 2021. At LSU, he played in just 38 games across his five years, tallying 780 passing yards and six touchdowns.
Hilton took part in nearly every major pre-NFL showcase game, including the 2026 East-West Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl, but ultimately went undrafted and signed with the Commanders. Ahead of his draft, Hilton was ranked as the 50th-best wide receiver in the draft, according to The Athletic.
While his fit seems a bit confusing on paper, in practice (literally and figuratively), it might make a lot of sense. Hilton ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and if he's able to put it together while developing his other skills, that could be a useful tool for the Packers.
Outside of Christian Watson, the team doesn't have any other bona fide reliable deep threat as of yet. While Golden and Reed could become that, Hilton could carve out a role similar to that of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who really broke out on the team as a serious deep threat before becoming more reliable elsewhere.
For now, Hilton's main concern will likely be making the team. As he starts out as just a camp body, Hilton will have chances to showcase his skill. With the start of preseason coming up this week, he has the chance to join Savion Williams, J. Michael Sturdivant, and others as wide receivers looking to break into the main group for the team.
