Packers almost lost Rich Bisaccia in the most hilarious way imaginable

You can't make it up.

It's fair to say Rich Bisaccia hasn't produced the results the Green Bay Packers hoped for after making him the league's highest-paid special teams coordinator three years ago.

Special teams errors played a significant role in the Packers' playoff exit — bad call aside, Keisean Nixon fumbling on the opening kickoff set the team back. Brandon McManus missing a field goal didn't help. A week earlier, the Chicago Bears fooled Bisaccia's unit to allow a punt-return touchdown.

The players deserve blame for making unforced errors, but when they keep happening, we have to question the coach. Pro Football Focus gave the Packers a special teams grade of just 58.5, the lowest in the NFL.

Despite the unit's struggles, head coach Matt LaFleur has shown no indication of making a coaching change. He has already parted ways with defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich, but the lack of other moves likely means Bisaccia will return.

Well, unless a team offers him a head coach job. That is also unlikely, but the Dallas Cowboys reportedly had interest.

Cowboys reportedly had interest in hiring Rich Bisaccia to replace Mike McCarthy

The Cowboys are a mess. What's new? They took their time to decide Mike McCarthy's fate, and after blocking the Chicago Bears from interviewing him, the Cowboys chose to move on anyway.

Their delay effectively ruled them out of the running for Ben Johnson, Mike Vrabel, and Aaron Glenn. All signs point toward the Cowboys surprisingly promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the head coach gig.

However, Bisaccia's name was also rumored to be on the Cowboys' list of candidates.

According to Josh Liles of Pro Football Post, Dallas is "interested" in Bisaccia. Cowboys reporter Joseph Hoyt later confirmed that the team has had "some level of interest" in the Packers' special teams coordinator.

Bisaccia is LaFleur's assistant head coach and was briefly the Las Vegas Raiders' interim head coach in 2021, leading them to a 7-5 record after Jon Gruden's departure.

But is Bisaccia the best fit for the Cowboys? Is he a better head coach than McCarthy?

It feels like Dallas parted ways with McCarthy but had no real plan about what comes next. The Bears, of all teams, had clarity and quickly identified Ben Johnson as their top target. Around the same time, the Cowboys hadn't even decided whether McCarthy would be back.

Many Packers fans have called for the team to move on from Bisaccia after another disappointing season from the special teams. LaFleur didn't fire him, but the Cowboys almost forced the Packers into a change.

It doesn't look likely, but who knows what will happen next? The Cowboys are predictably unpredictable.
