In case you haven't noticed, the internet is in a race to get Jaire Alexander out of Green Bay. The two sides kinda did this to themselves with how the end of last season transpired, but there obviously hasn't been much movement since. That's what draft night is for, duh.
RELATED: Intriguing Jaire Alexander replacement may have just fallen into Packers' lap
Until then, we're all stuck spinning our wheels as we try to differentiate our Alexander replacement take in ways that the other ten thousand NFL bloggers are not. Some of them are better than others. One recent idea – courtesy of the fine folks over at Pro Football Network – floats an interesting name that'd fit somewhere in a Packers secondary that has more issues than just figuring out what to do about Alexander.
Pro Football Network has found the "perfect" Jaire Alexander replacement
PFN's pick: Mike Hilton, Slot CB
"The Green Bay Packers finished in the top 10 in our Offense+, Defense+, and OL+ metrics last season. With that being said, their top need is likely defensive tackle and secondary. Jaire Alexander’s status as a Packer is uncertain, and they don’t have very many good slot options either ... I think [Hilton] would be an immediate starter on several teams right now, and his current APY isn’t the most outrageous. Signing Hilton would allow Green Bay to focus on defensive tackle or outside corner in the draft, both of which are plentiful in the early rounds of the draft."
It is kinda bizarre that Hilton – who finished last year as Pro Football Focus' 23rd best overall corner – still hasn't been signed. He'd fit in well somewhere on Jeff Hafley's defense, and by somewhere I mean in the slot, where he played 617 of his 737 snaps last year with the Bengals.
Otherwise, a 1-for-1 Alexander replacement he is not. Alexander is a true outside corner – he only played 14 snaps in the slot this year, as opposed to 331 outside. And maybe Hafley views Hilton as an outside corner in Green Bay, but considering Hilton has played an overwhelmingly large percentage of his snaps in the slot since being drafted in 2016, I bet he doesn't. But Hilton in Green Bay *alongside* Alexander? Now we're talking.
