Packers failing to take advantage after brutal Brian Branch ejection is disappointing

Branch made a huge error.

Outside of a few Josh Jacobs runs, the Green Bay Packers didn't have a ton of positives clicking during their matchup against the Detroit Lions in the first half. The Packers found themselves down in a quick 7-3 hole after noted Green Bay hater Amon-Ra St. Brown connected on a fourth down touchdown.

With the time winding down in the first half, the Packers were given a major kick in the butt that could help spur a comeback. Unfortunately for Detroit, star defensive back Brian Branch turned the clock back to the 1970s at the worst possible time, and he was punished accordingly.

Branch clocked Packers wide receiver Bo Melton on a hit that was aggressive no matter which era of football you're playing in. Branch was ejected from the game, which will take a big chunk of spark out of an Aaron Glenn defense that had been playing quite well this season.

Unfortunately, this play was followed by the Lions getting a field goal that made the score 10-3 and a pick-six from Jordan Love that helped Detroit pad their advantage to 17-3 right before the break. Still, if there is hope of a comeback, it is in Love's hands.

Lions' Brian Branch's ejection open up winning gameplan for Packers

Branch earned another penalty right after that play after giving the Green Bay crowd the old two-finger salute. After this and the St. Brown hoodie before the game, it is quite clear the Lions do not like the Packers or their fanbase very much.

While Love hasn't been his usual self in this game, playing without Branch could present an opportunity for Matt LaFleur to uncork a few deep shots. Detroit's pass defense remains the weakest area on the team, and Love's arm strength could help them cut through the elements in the second half.

The Lions have proven they can take a punch in this game, but they are still a few more impact players away from being a completely dominant team. Losing Branch will expose their weaknesses if LaFleur and Love are both on their game in the second half.
