Only the Jets could screw this up.

Are we sure Pat McAfee was right about calling Joe Douglas a great general manager?

The New York Jets have traded for Davante Adams in the least surprising deal of the century, but the details make it look like a full-on panic move. Bringing in Adams undoubtedly helps the Jets' offense, and as Green Bay Packers fans, it will be fun to see him reconnect with Aaron Rodgers.

But the Jets still look bad after this deal. They are 2-4, have already fired their head coach, and have just hit the panic button by trading for Adams.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, they are taking on Adams' entire remaining contract. They will also send the Raiders a third-round pick that can become a second.

Lose to the Minnesota Vikings? Fire the head coach. Lose again the following week? Take on Adams' entire contract in a trade.

Douglas and the Jets have gone full-on panic mode to salvage their season.

Jets make the type of panic move the Packers never would before trade deadline

The Packers fleeced the Jets with the initial Rodgers trade last year. The Jets have already gone this far, so they basically had no choice but to give the Raiders what they wanted.

Las Vegas probably can't believe its luck. It has potentially acquired a second-round pick (a third in the worst-case scenario) while dumping the rest of Adams' contracts on the Jets' laps.

Can Adams save New York's season? It is 2-4, has already fired its head coach, and the problems seem to go far deeper than anything Adams can fix. The Jets are taking an even bigger long-term hit by taking on Adams' contract.

Is trading for Rodgers' greatest-ever wide receiver a bad thing? Of course not, but the Jets should've made this deal two weeks ago while they were 2-2.

For us Packers fans, this is great. We get to see Rodgers throwing passes to Adams. Hopefully, it works out. But we also don't have to worry about our team sending a premium pick to the Raiders and taking on a massive contract despite being 2-4, having an interim head coach, and quickly falling out of the playoff picture.

Sit back and enjoy.
