Packers fans can only laugh as latest Bears rumor dooms Caleb Williams
After selecting Caleb Williams with the first overall pick, it looked as though the Chicago Bears might finally have a quarterback who could take them places.
This was supposed to be the year the Bears finally had a franchise quarterback and won meaningful games. Or at least this is what Green Bay Packers fans had to hear the entire offseason. That's why the Bears' recent two-game skid has been a lot of fun to witness, even for Aaron Rodgers.
Well, the latest Bears intel from NFL Network's Adam Rank will make Packers fans even happier. Rank said on his podcast, The Sick Podcast, that those close to Bears GM Ryan Poles have been informed that Matt Eberflus will remain the Bears head coach.
"They indicated to me that regardless of what happens at all, Matt Eberflus is coming back."
Matt Eberflus staying in Chicago is great news for Packers fans
This is absolute gold for Packers fans. Eberflus was hired by the Bears in 2022 and has yet to post a winning record since joining the Packers' rival. Chicago went 3-14 in Eberflus' first year, then finished 7-10 in 2023, and currently sits 4-4 in the 2024 season. The Bears have beat up on bad teams in their four wins and now that they're playing not bad teams, we're seeing more of who they are.
In eight games, Williams has thrown for 1,665 yards, just nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. Kurt Benkert's bold preseason prediction is looking pretty good.
People thought now that Williams was taking snaps for the Bears that maybe things would turn around in the Windy City, but that hasn't been the case. Williams hasn't been tearing up the league like second overall pick Jayden Daniels has, and if Eberflus is sticking around, that could mean Williams is mediocre for even longer.

The Packers haven't had the pleasure of squaring off against the Bears yet this season (that first matchup comes in a little over a week) but Green Bay has had no problem with Eberflus' Bears since he got to Chicago. Eberflus has yet to win a game against the Packers, sitting with an 0-4 record against them.
If the Bears continue to flounder down the stretch and the organization decides to stick with Eberflus, that's bad news for Williams and Bears fans but excellent news for Packers fans. If a rival team wants to continue to hold off on fixing its issues, Packers fans should have no problem letting that play out.
Quarterbacks only have a few years where they can truly develop before teams give up on them, so if the Bears want to hinder their franchise quarterback by giving him a lame-duck coach, so be it. It'll make life easier for the Packers and we can go back to the normal universe where the Bears aren't good at football. Everyone wins (except for Bears fans, which is fine).
