In an age of the internet where every other joke references the nonsensical "6, 7" meme, the Green Bay Packers have found their own magic number to focus on for the 2025 season. Of course, that number is 27.
While it may not be as funny a number as the number 25 that got SpongeBob sent to the back of Mrs. Puff's classroom, it's proving to be the most crucial number on the scoreboard. In all four of the Packers' wins, the team scored exactly 27 points. Their 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday saved the franchise from suffering its 27th all-time loss to Arizona, too.
Of course, ahead of the season, Packers fans were up in arms about the fact that this is quarterback Jordan Love's age-27 season — the same age Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers were when they won their first championships.
Maybe 27 isn't just a number, maybe it's the Packers' destiny taking shape
You can scour the Packers' stat sheet and you won't find the number 27 too many times. A few defenders have that many tackles and only a handful of players on the roster are that exact age. It's backup safety Kitan Oladapo's number, but he's not likely to make a huge impact any time soon unless the football gods are really having fun with the team this year.
There aren't too many individual stats that would be framed as good if they landed at exactly 27, either. If Jordan Love only throws 27 touchdowns, it'd be more than last year, but not good enough to fuel the Super Bowl aspirations that come with the number. Josh Jacobs isn't scoring that many touchdowns, and Micah Parsons isn't getting that many sacks.
Outside of the Packers' culture, the number doesn't have warm and fuzzy feelings either. Anyone plugged into the rock and roll music scene knows about the unsettling coincidences surrounding the 27 Club. Still, it remains a beacon of hope for Green Bay because when it's relevant, it usually plays out perfectly for Green Bay.

Of course, Green Bay will eventually win a game with more or fewer than 27 points. Whether or not Love wins his first championship at 27 is dependent on much more than 27 individual factors. That's probably somewhere in the ballpark of 27 to the 27th power number of scenarios that will influence the outcome of the season.
But you don't have to be superstitious to recognize that the number keeps popping up during such a pivotal season for this franchise. Just a little 'stitious' will do, as Michael Scott would say.
The number is sure to pop up again before the season comes to a close. The Packers play the Carolina Panthers on Love's 27th birthday, so that should be a hotspot for the prophecy to reveal more information. The Packers also play the Detroit Lions next on November 27.
All other future references may only be revealed when the universe, the great mathematician it is, allows it.
