Ahead of Thursday's preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers got some good injury news from a couple of key players.
As the Packers took part in their 11th practice of training camp Tuesday, they were rejoined by a handful of players who had previously been out with injury.
This included starting wide receivers Jayden Reed (foot) and Matthew Golden (toe), backup tight end Josh Whyle (neck), and most importantly, cornerback Carrington Valentine, who had missed some time with a hamstring injury. Valentine did most of his work with the rehab group for the practice, but it was good to see him back regardless.
While none of the four players were out with any serious issues, it is still good to see them back on the field. As for their status for Thursday, it's unclear if they'll be playing, but it's not impossible.
Josh Jacobs, Javon Bullard, and others likely out for Thursday's preseason opener
During his daily press conference, coach Matt LaFleur said that anyone who is healthy enough to practice should at least be preparing like they're going to play. We know that the starters will likely get some reps in the game, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see them out there in a couple of days.
Who we won't see, most likely, are a handful of key contributors to the team. Safety Javon Bullard (foot), running back Josh Jacobs (groin), cornerback Domani Jackson (core), and edge rusher Dani Sennis-Sutton (illness) all didn't practice on Tuesday.
Since there is no practice on Wednesday as the team is traveling to Pittsburgh, it's unknown if any of the four will suit up. It's a safe bet that none of Bullard, Jackson, or Jacobs will play, but Dennis-Sutton could, as he looks to make a name for himself in what will be his first real taste of NFL action if he plays.
Regardless of who plays, it's likely that the team's starters won't be seeing the field too much. Preseason is generally about trying to figure out who will make the fringe corners of the team. For the Packers, this is actually a key spot to look at, as the team is likely hoping a handful of players in the secondary and edge rooms make some splashes, as they're still dealing with injuries and depth issues in those areas.
