One of the hotter topics around Green Bay Packers minicamp has been the absence of cornerback Jaire Alexander after he was released by the team earlier in the week.
Alexander's exit and absence is not the only non-attendance worth talking about in Green Bay, though, as Miami Dolphins cornerback and 3-time All Pro Jalen Ramsey did not show up to his mandatory camp as well.
Are you connecting the dots here? If ever there was an easy puzzle to solve, it's this one. Ramsey in Green Bay simply makes sense, and Brian Gutekunst has to make it happen.
Jalen Ramsey is an obvious move the Packers absolutely have to make
This seems way too simple. Ramsey is already on his way out of Miami after it's long seemed like the Dolphins have wanted to find a trade partner. Now, they've been actively looking for exactly that.
The Packers' shortage at the position speaks louder than just about any other team's depth chart right now, especially after Alexander's release.
Let's be honest, although it might be fun to see wide receiver Bo Melton lining up at cornerback and doing his best Travis Hunter impersonation, do we really think this is the type of move that's going to make up for a less-than-stellar depth chart?
If Melton pans out, it would make Matt LaFleur look like a genius. But, the Packers need more depth, regardless.
What better way to address a position, in mid-June, than to be able to trade for a former All Pro who can still play at a high level? Ramsey would be welcomed with open arms on a team that's in arguably the toughest division in football.
He's also coming from a team that has had some noted culture issues over the last couple of years with Mike McDaniel. Ramsey's entire world would shift coming to Green Bay, as LaFleur has a much more well-established culture than the one he's used to in Miami.
Make the move, Mr. Gutekunst. It's in your court.
