The good news? Zach Tom isn't going anywhere, as the Green Bay Packers struck a four-year extension with their star right tackle.

Can they follow it with a resolution to Elgton Jenkins' contract situation? OK, maybe that's too much to ask.

How does Tom's extension impact Jenkins? According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, not at all.

"I'm told this doesn't impact Elgton Jenkins' situation one way or the other," reports Demovsky. "Sounds like the Packers are willing to talk, but possibly not til later in the season after he's settled in at center. Will be interesting to hear Jenkins' thoughts when we can talk to him in camp."

Jenkins sat out of practice throughout the Packers' offseason workout program with the hopes of landing a revised contract. Green Bay has moved the Pro Bowler from left guard to center as a direct result of signing Aaron Banks. It could hurt Jenkins' future paydays, as center is a less lucrative position.

The former second-round pick understandably wants additional security, but as of yet, nothing has happened.

It doesn't sound like there's any end in sight to Packers' awkward situation with Elgton Jenkins

The Packers placed Jenkins on the non-football injury list to begin training camp. It's unclear what injury he is dealing with or how long it could keep him out.

Even when he gets back to 100 percent, the Packers find themselves in an awkward situation.

Jenkins has every right to ask for more financial security. He has produced two Pro Bowl seasons from the left guard position, and it's not his fault the Packers overpaid for another left guard in free agency. Despite producing high-quality play each year, Green Bay has forced Jenkins into a different position.

The Packers have solved two offensive line questions before training camp. Extending Tom's deal was an easy call, and they also finally agreed to terms with Anthony Belton over his rookie contract.

That just leaves Jenkins. The Packers clearly feel no urgency to get something done, opening the door for more frustration when training camp opens this week.
