The Green Bay Packers have dropped back-to-back home games and the offense has looked completely lifeless in those defeats, scoring a whopping 20 points and just two touchdowns. A fraction of the blame will rightfully be placed on head coach and playcaller Matt LaFleur, who could be coaching for his job the rest of the season, at least according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

Following Green Bay's 10-7 loss to the Eagles on Monday Night Football that dropped them to 5-3-1 and to third in the NFC North, Schneidman wrote, "Jeff Hafley is coordinating a championship defense. LaFleur's offense is far from that caliber. That might need to change over the next two months for him to keep his job."

Schneidman asked LaFleur after the loss if he believed he was coaching for his job, and the Packers head coach gave the typical coachspeak/word salad type of answer, saying he'd leave that for everyone else to decide.

"I'll leave that for everyone else to decide," LaFleur said. "I'll just focus on the day to day. I feel like you're always coaching for everything in this league, that's just my mindset. That's always been that way. You can't ever exhale. You've got to always be pushing. That's just my mindset, and that will be my mindset until they tell me not to coach anymore."

The writing is on the wall for Matt LaFleur after back-to-back losses

It's pretty clear at this point that LaFleur's seat is going to get warmer with every loss and every lackluster performance on offense, since that's supposed to be his bread and butter.

LaFleur's seat should be hot. As Schneidman alluded to, Hafley has his defense cooking and playing at a Super Bowl level. They've allowed just 39 points in the three Packers losses, but the offense has continued to drag its feet and not produce. Scoring seven points when you have the talent that the Packers have offensively is inexcusable. Losing a game when your defense gives up just 10 points is also inexcusable.

For LaFleur to keep his job, this offense needs to not just play better, but dang near flawlessly over the final month and a half of the regular season. If the Packers miss the playoffs, it's likely going to be time to find a new head coach. If they get into the postseason but get bounced due to a poor performance on offense, then same story. Time to move on.

LaFleur was hired for his ability to cook things up on offense. He isn't doing that. Hopefully, a fire has been lit under him and he can turn this offense around. If not, the Packers could certainly be in the market for a head coach in the coming months.
