Packers already linked to top free agent wide receiver for 2025 offseason

This would certainly be something.

Sunday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers' season came to a halt after dropping their Wild Card matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The biggest story of the game came by way of injuries for the Packers, who lost multiple key names on both sides of the ball. But, one position seemed to weigh heavier than the rest.

After Romeo Doubs crashed to the ground in the third quarter and Jayden Reed limped off the field with an arm injury, the Packers were down to only three healthy wide receivers for the remainder of the game.

Christian Watson was already down for the count with a torn ACL, too. Clearly, the position had been ravaged.

But, the receiver room had already been lacking, even putting injuries aside. This team, while deep at receiver, still hadn't found a clear-cut, no. 1 wideout who can take over games alongside Jordan Love. This offseason, it would make sense for Green Bay to go out and find one.

That's exactly what ESPN's Benjamin Solak predicted in his recent column.

"Expect them to be in the Tee Higgins hunt," wrote Solak.

More Packers news:

Higgins played on the franchise tag this past year, for the Cincinnati Bengals, and while it is an option for Cincy to use again, we don't yet know their plans. If Higgins enters free agency, then he's fair game and the Packers could go make their pitch.

Playing alongside Ja'Marr Chase for most of his career, Higgins has still put up monstrous games and seasons. If he were to be the no. 1 on a team, he'd be more than capable of putting up a top-10 type of season. With his size and overall skill set, Higgins could be exactly what the Packers need.

The Packers will be looking at several avenues to land a top wide receiver

With Higgins being of interest, the Packers could also look at trying to find a receiver via trade. Solak also mentioned names like Garrett Wilson and DK Metcalf as potential trade options for Green Bay.

He hinted at the Packers possibly packaging someone like Doubs in a deal for one of those two, assuming the Jets or Seahawks are interested in moving their star wideouts.

Those three names are likely the top guys the Packers would have a chance at getting, otherwise it's off to this year's draft class.

Green Bay is set to pick no. 24 in the 2025 NFL Draft and may be able to snag one of the top wide receivers of this year's class, although they won't have a chance at Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan at that stage in the first round.

Regardless of which avenue the Packers take, it seems abundantly clear that while they like the receiver room, it's time to go out and get a true alpha at the position.
