Jordan Love has proved the Green Bay Packers right for their decision to trade up and draft him 26th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft -- and for their decision to move on from Aaron Rodgers following the 2022 season.
He has appeared in 32 games while throwing for 7,548 yards, 57 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, and completing 63.7 percent of his pass attempts.
Meanwhile, Love has led the Packers to back-to-back postseason appearances. While he is tied with Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert for the sixth-best MVP odds, many analysts, execs, and even coaches continue to disrespect him. However, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently shared that he believes his signal-caller is on the verge of becoming an elite quarterback.
"I'd hate to put a ceiling on him," LaFleur told Jeff Howe of The Athletic. "I think he can be one of the elites in this league."
Packers HC Matt LaFleur believes Jordan Love will become an elite QB
Love has proven his doubters wrong every step of the way, and the Packers have shown full faith in their starting quarterback. After just one season as a starter, he was rewarded with a four-year, $220 million contract extension that includes $160.3 million in guaranteed money.
The $55 million average annual value is tied with Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence for the second-highest in the league -- trailing only Dak Prescott.
Despite missing two games in 2024, Love's 57 passing touchdowns are tied with Allen for the fifth-most over the past two seasons. His 7,548 passing yards are the 10th-most in the league over that span.
His completion percentage, however, is just 25th among players who qualify, while he is tied for the seventh-most interceptions thrown. Despite his struggles with accuracy, Love has shown that he has the ability to be one of the game's truly elite quarterbacks when everything is clicking. He has also dealt with far too many drops from his receivers.
Green Bay has already invested heavily in its franchise quarterback and used its first three picks to build around Love -- including drafting a wide receiver in the first round for the first time since 2002. It will be up to the star quarterback to take the next step to be mentioned as one of the league's top passers.
