Packers may be this 1 free agent away from hot start after 2026 schedule release

The Green Bay Packers managed to get a slight bit of reprieve when the 2026 NFL schedule was released, as they have many of their more winnable games in the year right at the beginning, which could be spent without Micah Parsons. His injury last year has left the edge rusher room in a state of desperation that was not properly addressed in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Packers will need to bring in at least one more veteran, as they can beat up on some of the also-rans in the league until Parsons can come back and provide his usual level of game-changing play. Unless Dani Dennis-Sutton suddenly becomes Reggie White in his rookie season, it might be hard for new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to get this unit in top shape.

Until Parsons gets back, it's all hands on deck. It would be silly to dismiss the idea of someone like Joey Bosa providing a short-term boost.

Packers could sign Joey Bosa to start hot in 2026 season

Bosa is always going to be a health risk, and he is not the same player he was during his time with the Los Angeles Chargers. While that is clearly turning some teams off him, Bosa still managed five sacks with a decent pressure rate while forcing a league-best five fumbles. He plays the run at an acceptable clip for someone his age.

Bosa will likely be very picky with his next destination, as he is only going to consider teams that can give him a shot at a Super Bowl ring after years of falling short with both the Buffalo Bills and Chargers. The Packers, should they get off to the start everyone expects them to have, could be a team that fits that directive.

Bosa can start right away and eventually fade into a more complementary role once Parsons comes back. Lukas Van Ness might be under a microscope as well. If Bosa is able to provide his usual standard of play, that could mean fewer snaps for Van Ness and even more confirmation that he is not a player worth investing in.

If the Packers are slow to react to Bosa being available at this point in the offseason, not only could they miss on the best available player on the market for a team seeking a Parsons-sized Band-Aid, but they could watch him go to a contender if they are asleep at the switch.
