So far, most of the discourse surrounding this Green Bay Packers offseason has been about the defense.
The secondary struggled at times this season, and the future of Jaire Alexander has been a major point of discussion. The Packers are fortunate to already have a couple young stars on that side of the ball, but it's probably not a coincidence that most of the mock drafts floating around the internet have Green Bay taking a defensive guy with their first-round pick.
And I hate to be a huge bummer, but I'd argue there are more – or, at least, equally – pressing needs for Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur to figure out over the next six months. At the top of the list? Wide receiver. The Packers have a lot of lowercase-g guys, but the jury's still out on if any of them are actually uppercase-d Dudes.

Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks all had their moments this season, but injuries and inconsistencies hounded the ground all year. Watson will almost certainly miss a big chunk of next season after tearing his ACL in the Packers' regular-season finale, and LaFleur admitted after the season that Doubs' concussion history was concerning.
It's a big reason why there have been so many persistent rumors about Davante Adams returning to Green Bay – the Packers need a bonafide WR1 in the worst way. But thanks to a newly-published piece about possible cap casualties from Over The Cap, the Packers' answer may be right under their nose (that is, if they have OTC up on their browser, which I assume they do?).
Seahawks' WR D.K. Metcalf listed as a possible cap casualty by Over The Cap
D.K. Metcalf! That's a fun name. Like OTC mentions, it's probably important to stress that "most players on this list will likely not be cut ... Common sense needs to be applied as to which players on this list are unlikely to be cut, even if it's informative to see them on the list." What a boring way to live. If you put Metcalf on a list of cap cuts, I'm just going to assume with every ounce of optimism in my body that he's basically already a Green Bay Packer.
Metcalf's coming off one of the "worst" statistical seasons of his career, catching 66 balls for 992 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games (12 starts). And for whatever it's worth, he finished the season ranked 33rd overall by Pro Football Focus.
He's still 27, though, and has never had less than 900 receiving yards in any of his six seasons with the Seahawks. He's due over $18 million in 2025, which is a whole lot of money but nothing the Packers couldn't handle. And for what it's worth, Gutekunst's always been a big fan of Metcalf and had him high on the Packers' draft board back in 2019.
Adams is the flashy name, but I think Packers fans would probably be just fine with Metcalf too. Or maybe we'll all get a little crazy and try for both!
