Packers need to get Mark Murphy away from a mic after he telegraphs Day 2 trade

The Green Bay Packers made waves in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and Mark Murphy played a hand in that. Murphy announced the team's first-round draft pick of Matthew Golden and was psyched to announce that it was the first time the Packers had drafted a first-round receiver since 2002, with the Green Bay crowd also amped up.

Well, Murphy continued to spice things up during the draft while appearing on The Up & Adams Show on Friday. Adams asked Murphy what everyone could look forward to during Day 2 of the draft to which Murphy replied, "I predict [the Packers] will trade up once and down twice."

When Adams shockingly asks, "The Packers?" Murphy is quick to respond with a confident "Yes" and Adams laughs it off awkwardly as if she's aware that the Packers President just said way too much. Murphy probably looks at this situation like he has nothing to lose, thanks to the mandatory retirement age of 70 for the Packers President/CEO role forcing Murphy out of his role later this year.

While Packers fans were elated to finally see the team add a wide receiver in the first round, there's still a strong need in the pass-rushing department. Perhaps Murphy's prediction of the Packers trading up in the second round will be for an edge rusher (Jordan Burch, anyone?) or maybe he's just trying to have some fun and rile some people up.

If the Packers address their biggest needs with their first two picks and have to trade up to get one of them, so be it. This team is hoping to take the next step in 2025 by winning the competitive NFC North and reaching the Super Bowl so doing whatever it takes to get them there will be just fine with Packers fans.

As for Murphy, we'll find out if he's yanking everyone's chain or being truthful here soon enough.
