The last thing the Green Bay Packers need is another injury at running back, and for a moment, it didn't look great.

Emanuel Wilson, who is battling with MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks for a spot higher on the depth chart, left Friday's practice early after hurting his leg. Various reports noted that it didn't look great initially, raising concerns about the severity of his injury. Fortunately, the Packers received good news.

"Emanuel Wilson 'tweaked' his knee at practice today. No damage and shouldn't be out long, according to a source," reports Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated.

Packers get more good injury news, but Chris Brooks has a golden opportunity

The good news is that Wilson shouldn't miss much time. It's a similar story for second-year running back MarShawn Lloyd, who also had an injury scare. Lloyd will sit out of practice for the rest of the week due to an abductor injury, but it's not a long-term concern.

In the meantime, Chris Brooks has a golden opportunity.

The former Miami Dolphins running back made the most of his limited opportunities last season, rushing for 183 yards and a touchdown on just 36 carries, an impressive average of 5.1 yards per attempt. He also added 11 catches for 69 yards.

Brooks is competing for the third and potentially final spot at running back. The Packers could find room to keep four backs on the 53, but that won't be easy, given their depth at other positions, like wide receiver.

Lloyd's injury history is perhaps enough reason to pause before moving on from Wilson or Brooks, but again, it all comes down to how much room they have.

In any case, Brooks now has a bigger opportunity to prove himself. It's unlikely Lloyd or Wilson will participate in Saturday's Family Night scrimmage, and their status for the next few practices remains to be seen. Brooks has the chance to strengthen his grip on a roster spot.

The main takeaway is that Wilson's injury isn't serious. Green Bay is currently without two running backs, but neither Wilson nor Lloyd is expected to miss much time.
