Well, well, well. Rashan Gary will need to repost his goodbye message to Green Bay Packers fans.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Packers are finalizing a trade that will send Gary to the Dallas Cowboys. It's beautifully ironic just months after Green Bay stole Micah Parsons from the Cowboys in one of the most shocking trades of all time. Per Schefter, the Packers will receive a fourth-round pick in 2027.
The Parsons trade left the Cowboys in desperate need of a pass-rusher, and now they land the player many assumed would have been included in that deal initially. It felt inevitable that the Packers would move on from Gary this offseason, and getting draft capital in return is a major win instead of releasing their 2019 first-round draft choice.
Full details as Packers send Rashan Gary to Cowboys in stunning trade
Here are the full details of the trade, per NFL Network's Rapoport:
Packers receive
- 2027 fourth-round pick
Cowboys receive
- DE Rashan Gary
It's a fantastic deal for the Packers. They don't have a first-round pick this year or in 2027 — they both ironically belong to the Cowboys — so receiving solid draft compensation for Gary sure helps.
It's important to note that the fourth-rounder is in next year's draft, and not this one. But it was assumed the Packers would make Gary a cap casualty this week, so getting anything in return would've been viewed as a major win. The fact that it's a future fourth-round pick is simply phenomenal work by Brian Gutekunst.
Having already traded away Colby Wooden, upgrading the defensive line now becomes an even bigger priority for the Packers.
