Entering training camp, there are some real buzz-worthy position battles that will undoubtedly unfold for the Green Bay Packers.
While there could be worry at cornerback and how that competition will shake out, the wide receiver room should see plenty of healthy, fierce battles as well. When it comes to the running back room, though, most fans might assume that it's essentially set. Yet, undrafted rookie Jalen White is out to perform a miracle, if you will.
White's shot at making the roster will likely hinge on whether the Packers keep four running backs. If they do, then he knows what he needs to do, and that's to leapfrog fellow undrafted rookie Amar Johnson first and foremost.
Jalen White's chances of making the Packers' roster might come down to whether health reigns supreme
From there, it's Chris Brooks, Emanuel Wilson and MarShawn Lloyd ahead of him on the depth chart.
Now, not to make light of injuries, but that aspect of camp and preseason might be the only real shot for White to make the roster.
You never want to root for injuries, whether or not it's on your team or a rival's. But, from a realistic standpoint, White is sitting behind some guys who have had injury concerns. Both Brooks and Lloyd, specifically, have had health issues in recent seasons.
In 2023, Brooks dealt with both a leg injury and was in concussion protocol at one point. Last season, Brooks had an ankle issue plague him late in the season.
Meanwhile, Lloyd had multiple issues derail his rookie campaign. Between appendicitis and injuries to his ankle, hamstring and hip, the rookie spent almost all of his first season out of commission.
Ironically enough, White had his share of injury concerns, mostly in 2023, so he's going to have to rely on that bug refusing to bite in the coming months.
White came into the league as a fifth-year player out of Georgia Southern and was used to carrying the majority of the load in college. At 5-foot-11, 207 pounds, White has the prototypical blend of size and strength to go with an effective burst.
He ended his college career with double-digit rushing touchdowns in two of his final three seasons and having averaged a healthy 5.3 yards per carry.
