The Green Bay Packers have a few potential red flags ahead of the new season, but the wide receiver corps isn't among them.
There are undoubtedly a few questions, like whether first-round pick Matthew Golden can build on a strong summer and make an instant impact. Or whether Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks can show more consistency with drops. But is it the top concern for this team?
Jared Dubin of CBS Sports highlighted each team's biggest challenge ahead of the new season, and he went with the Packers' wide receivers.
"Will Jayden Reed ever be allowed to play in two-receiver sets?" Dubin writes. "Can Dontayvion Wicks actually catch the ball when he gets open? If and when Christian Watson gets back on the field, can he be more than an occasional deep-shot artist? Will Romeo Doubs be unhappy again now that there's yet another mouth to feed?"
Packers' wide receiver room has questions, but it's not the biggest challenge facing them in 2025
These are fair questions, of course, and as Dubin concluded, the Packers "need to find answers" at receiver for Jordan Love to reach the next level.
But a far bigger question mark could derail Love's hopes of a breakout season. Beyond the starting offensive line, who do the Packers have confidence in? If we assume Rasheed Walker wins the left tackle job and Sean Rhyan remains the right guard, it's fair to say they would have confidence in Jordan Morgan coming off the bench.
Beyond that, it gets concerning.
Rookie Anthony Belton has shown potential as a blocker, particularly in the run game, but he has lacked consistency in the preseason while being called for far too many penalties. Matt LaFleur couldn't hide his frustration during last week's warm-up game against the Indianapolis Colts.
It's even worse at the interior positions. Second-year players Jacob Monk and Donovan Jennings have struggled throughout the preseason, and now Monk is dealing with a hamstring injury.
The Packers' offensive line depth is the biggest red flag on offense, and there are also fair questions to ask on defense.
Has the pass rush taken the next step? The hiring of new defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington is helping launch a potential breakout season for the pass rush, but we need to see it in the regular season first.
Have the Packers done enough at cornerback? Do they have enough depth behind starters Nate Hobbs, Keisean Nixon, and Carrington Valentine?
The Packers face several important questions this season. While that does include a wide receiver corps that needs immediate production from rookies Golden and Williams and consistency from the veterans, it's far from the biggest challenge facing this team in 2025.
It's along the offensive line where the preseason has exposed a potential red flag for the Packers' championship hopes.
