The Green Bay Packers have decided that their crowded wide receiver room isn't competitive enough, picking up wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, whom the San Francisco 49ers surprisingly released. He becomes the 12th wide receiver on the depth chart.
Neyor will compete with receivers like Cornelius Johnson, Julian Hicks, and Malik Heath for a potentially final spot on the starting roster.
For the last two seasons, the Packers haven't placed more than six receivers on the roster, lighting a fire under any players who feel like they're in the bottom half of the position group.
Packers add even more competition to the WR room with Isaiah Neyor
The 24-year-old Nebraska Cornhusker performed well at the 2025 draft combine, finishing with the fourth-highest Relative Athletic Score (RAS) among all eligible receivers. This score is created from draft measurements like the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, and the player's height and weight.
Neyor's 40-yard time was 4.40 seconds, faster than fellow Packers rookie Savion Williams, making the explosive potential of the Green Bay offense even more apparent.
Despite his impressive draft score, Neyor's inconsistent college career can't be ignored.
He played for three schools from 2019 to 2024 and revoked commitments to Tennessee and Louisville, raising some red flags regarding his dedication to the team. His injury history includes a torn ACL, which caused him to miss his 2022 season at Texas.
However, he has played in 13 games since the tear. Two Packers receivers, Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks, are currently dealing with injuries, likely opening the door for players like Neyor to prove their worth during the preseason.
While his final year at Nebraska ended with just 455 receiving yards, Neyor finished with five touchdowns, the most for the team in 2024. It's yet to be seen whether he will find any form of success in the NFL, but the Packers have become a bastion for young receivers who are hungry for playing time and could provide Neyor with a more permanent home.
