While many of the Green Bay Packers’ key starters are trying to get healthy, the players on the other end of the roster are taking advantage of their opportunities. Every day matters for the players on this uphill journey, but preseason games are especially important when they get to showcase how they perform when the lights are on.
One player who’s looking to have a strong performance in Week 2 of the preseason is Amar Johnson.
Johnson is an undrafted rookie running back, but he has quickly earned the support of fans by making some exciting plays throughout training camp and in his preseason debut. He’ll now try to deliver another strong performance as he hopes to overcome the odds and make the regular-season roster.
Amar Johnson needs another strong preseason performance if he’s going to make Packers roster
In Week 1 of the preseason against the New York Jets, Johnson had a show-stealing performance, carrying the ball seven times for 67 yards and a touchdown. The impressive showing earned him immense praise. Now, everyone is excited to see what he will do for an encore.
When Johnson takes the field on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts, he’ll be able to prove his first performance wasn’t a fluke. He’ll need to follow up with another good game because making the final roster is still an uphill battle for him as an undrafted free agent.
Of course, Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd are locks to make the roster. With teams typically only keeping three to four running backs, that leaves Johnson, Chris Brooks, and Emanuel Wilson all fighting for one or two spots.
Ultimately, who stays on the active roster will be Green Bay’s decision to make, but Johnson can take the field on Saturday and do everything in his power to make him the tough one to waive.
