Packers urged to make move that would signal the end for Jaire Alexander

The Jaire Alexander saga will only continue raging on until the Green Bay Packers make a concrete decision on the veteran's future.

But, that decision could be a ways away. When it does, though, fans could expect the decision to be two-fold and include the coinciding signing of veteran Asante Samuel Jr.

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton sees the former L.A. Chargers cornerback as a perfect addition, but Green Bay will likely have to wait until July to make their call.

"According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Samuel underwent neck surgery in April, but he plans to play this year and will remain in contact with several teams following a check-up in July," wrote Moton.

The Packers would be taking a risk no matter which way they decided on Jaire Alexander or Asante Samuel Jr.

With Samuel coming off neck surgery, the Packers would essentially be waiting it out to see just how healthy the veteran is before signing him. But, they'd be dumping a former Pro Bowl cornerback, with injury concerns, for a non-Pro Bowl cornerback with injury concerns.

Moton still believes Samuel is the better option:

"The Packers can hold Alexander until they get clarity on Samuel's medicals in the summer. If doctors clear Samuel to play, Green Bay should sign him and trade Alexander."

Should Green Bay have found a better option to replace Alexander? Absolutely.

But, they didn't, and they'll probably have to live with that decision. Hopefully, Alexander proves his doubters wrong and can return to play at a high level.

Regardless, I'm not so sure Samuel is the best choice at this stage. If Samuel didn't have his own health concerns, then sure, it would seem logical to have brought him in a while ago while cutting Alexander loose.

But with where we're at right now, if this ended up being the decision Green Bay had to make, going with Alexander over Samuel should be the move.
