Packers WR Christian Watson’s comeback mindset will fire up fans

It's been a very weird offseason to be a Packers wide receiver.

In a vacuum, you'd think they'd be in a good spot. Despite none of the Packers' young group of wideouts taking the proverbial 'next step' last season, they're all still on the right side of 30 and full of potential. Whether it's Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, or Dontayvion Wicks, the Packers have options for basically any scenario their offense needs.

And yet, for the first time in two decades, the Packers decided to take a wide receiver in the first round of the draft. Now with Texas' Matthew Golden in the mix, fans are starting to wonder what that means for the current group. More specifically, what it means for Christian Watson. Watson's still recovering from a season-ending knee injury he suffered in the regular season finale against Chicago, and there's been some speculation that Golden could, eventually, be his replacement in Green Bay. For now, he's just working on getting back on the field – and after talking to media from the team's training facility last week, it's hard not to get excited about it.

Christian Watson's offseason mindset is full of peak sports clichés – and it RULES

"Definitely happy to be back," he said. "Being around the guys – it's always a little different when you're around the team. A little bit more life to the party. But recovery's going really well, I'm in a really good spot. Just keeping the mentality there. Just working. I've got a couple more months ahead of me, but I'm attacking it every day and I'm in a really good spot ... I think it just comes down to what I've been through in my life, in terms of adversity that I've faced. I don't think there's really anything that could hit me that I wouldn't try and fight through and overcome. I think it's just the way I was raised – I was raised to be a fighter and to chase after thet hings that I want. I've gotten a lot in my life that I want to so far, but there's still a lot of things that I want, so I'm going to keep fighting for it."

The only person who probably loves this more than a Packers fan is a sports cliche fan. Watson hits all the usual beats – he's in a good spot! – but that doesn't make it any less fun to read. It's the offseason – not all of these stories are going to be winners. Sometimes players just have to give fans run-of-the-mill injury non-updates, and then bloggers have to go update those non-updates. The NFL content ecosystem isn't for the weak of heart.
