Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks -- who, along with Christian Watson, have been the Green Bay Packers' top receivers over the past two seasons -- all appeared to be locks to make the roster. A recent prediction, however, suggested that Doubs could shockingly be a cut candidate.
Doubs has spent his entire three-year career in Green Bay after the franchise selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 43 games over that span, recording 1,700 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 147 receptions.
He has, however, had a problem with drops, as he has already dropped 22 passes in his brief career. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested that the Packers could release the wide receiver.
"Of the Packers receivers who could realistically be cut, Doubs is the most noteworthy. He's been an impactful pass-catcher at times and has recorded 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns through three seasons. However, he's also struggled with drops (22 in 43 games) and might not be in Green Bay's long-term plans."
Packers WR Romeo Doubs named as a potential cut candidate (but don't expect it to happen)
The Packers made improving their wide receiver room a priority this offseason after finishing tied for third with 33 drops in 2024. They used their first-round pick to select Matthew Golden, marking the first time they had drafted a wide receiver in the opening round since 2002. The front office was not done there, as they doubled down at the position by landing Savion Williams in the third round.
Green Bay currently has 13 wide receivers on the roster -- although Watson is expected to begin the season on the PUP list. There are several players at the position who will be released on August 27, when teams are required to finalize their 53-man roster to begin the regular season.
In all likelihood, Doubs will begin the season with the Packers, as their wide receiver room has been hit hard with injuries. While he may not be back in 2026, his experience and familiarity with Jordan Love should help him retain his roster spot.
Furthermore, the cap savings are minimal for a team that has over $30 million in cap space. If Green Bay does indeed decide to move on from Doubs due to his pending free agency, a trade seems like a much more likely option.
Despite his issue with drops, the fourth-year wide receiver is talented enough that the Packers should be able to receive, at least, a Day 3 pick in return for him.
