3 difficult decisions Packers must make after Aaron Rodgers trade
Three difficult decisions the Green Bay Packers must make after trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Credit to Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. Aaron Rodgers was likely never going to play another game in the green and gold, but Gutekunst traded him away for, at the very least, two second-rounders and a swap of first-round picks.
One of those seconds could become a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the Jets' snaps this season -- a very achievable goal.
A great deal for the Packers and a risk the Jets are willing to take for a Hall-of-Fame quarterback. However, the difficult decisions aren't done in Green Bay. Following Aaron Rodgers' departure, the Packers have three more to make.
3. Packers must decide how to build around Jordan Love
This is Jordan Love's team now. We've known that for a while, but the Aaron Rodgers trade confirms it.
Love was destined to lead the Packers' offense from the moment he was selected 26th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Now it's over to Gutekunst to ensure Love has the best supporting cast possible.
Over the past year, the Packers have moved on from Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Robert Tonyan, and Marcedes Lewis, a number of key contributors in the Rodgers-led offense.
Now, the Packers need to build the Jordan Love offense.
Christian Watson is a great player to build around. Love connected with Watson for a 63-yard touchdown on one of their first regular-season snaps together. Hopefully a sign of what's to come.
The Packers have a nice foundation in Watson, Romeo Doubs, Aaron Jones, and AJ Dillon. They must now build on it.
Which playmakers will the Packers add? Do they draft a first-round receiver or tight end?
