3 Packers fan favorites who could be gone in 2024: Aaron Jones

Aaron Jones is a star on the field, and he's also an amazing person. He loves playing for the Packers and even took a pay cut to stay in Green Bay this offseason.

However, at some point, the Packers will move on. The time may come in 2024 when Jones' cap hit is set to reach $17.17 million. Jones will be 29 and entering his eighth season in the league.

If Green Bay released Jones next offseason, it would save $4.82 million, leaving a dead cap hit of $12.36 million. By doing it that way, the Packers would take the dead cap hit all in one go in 2024.

The other option would be to move on post-June 1 next year. It would create a bigger cap saving in 2024, but the Packers would also have to pay a dead cap hit in 2025. The team would save $11.45 million in 2024, leaving them with a dead cap hit of $5.72 million. They would pay a further $6.64 million the following year.

Jones is still one of the league's best running backs, and he will play a crucial role for the Packers this season, helping take pressure off first-year starting quarterback Jordan Love.

However, due to salary-cap reasons, this could be Jones' final year in Green Bay.
