Green Bay Packers free agents the fans won't miss: Dean Lowry

Expectations were high for Dean Lowry entering the 2022 season. He had made a career-best five sacks and nine quarterback hits the year prior. With the addition of Jarran Reed and Devonte Wyatt in the offseason, fans were hoping Lowry would play a role in a dominant defensive line.

That didn't go to plan. Lowry couldn't back it up, making just 0.5 sacks, his lowest total since 2019.

Lowry was placed on injured reserve in December, forcing him to miss the final two games of the regular season. Sometimes, an injury can prove why a player is so valuable to the team, as their absence is felt.

Unfortunately for Lowry, the opposite was true. Rookie Devonte Wyatt stepped into bigger role, playing more defensive snaps in the final two games than he had all year. Wyatt impressed, making one sack, one quarterback hit, and forcing a fumble.

Wyatt took his opportunity. He had outplayed Lowry for much of the season and, finally given more snaps late in the year, he delivered. Wyatt should be a starter moving forward.

Lowry has been a solid player for the Packers at defensive tackle over the past seven seasons, but it was time to move on.
