2. Backup boundary cornerbacks

Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, and Keisean Nixon will start at cornerback this season. Once healthy, Eric Stokes will resume his role in the top four.

Entering training camp, there was the promise of a wide-open competition for the backup jobs. Rookie Carrington Valentine and Corey Ballentine had other ideas. The two have absolutely dominated the positional battle, leaving no doubt about their status on the 53-man roster.

Valentine has turned heads at training camp with a run of excellent performances. He continued to show his ability in joint practices with the Cincinnati Bengals, breaking up two passes in the red zone.

Ballentine has played alongside Valentine in the second-team defense, and he also offers plenty on special teams, strengthening his position on a roster spot.

He became a regular on special teams for the Packers last season. Ballentine almost blocked a punt at practice, and he also offers value as a returner, having returned a kick for 73 yards against the Packers in preseason last August.

Innis Gaines could make the roster as the Packers' No. 2 slot corner behind Nixon, but the competition for the backup boundary jobs is effectively over. Valentine and Ballentine will be part of the Packers' top five at cornerback this season.
