3 players who have gone missing at Packers training camp
1. Anthony Johnson Jr.
The Packers' safety room is among the most crowded on the roster. Darnell Savage, Jonathan Owens, Rudy Ford, and Tarvarius Moore are all battling for snaps on defense, while Dallin Leavitt is a roster lock as one of the Packers' top special teams performers.
Packers fans were understandably excited when the team drafted Anthony Johnson Jr. in the seventh round, with the Iowa State safety projected to go earlier.
While he does have the talent to eventually start on defense, he was always going to need time.
There haven't been many updates about Johnson during training camp. That doesn't mean he isn't playing well, just that he hasn't put in many standout performances. Johnson has regularly played on the third-team defense, an indication the Packers don't think he's ready to move up the depth chart.
It leaves Green Bay in a difficult position. Not including him on the 53-man roster comes with some risk. Another team could put in a waiver claim. But will the Packers have room? Savage, Owens, Ford, Moore, and Leavitt will likely make the roster.
A year on the practice squad could be exactly what Johnson needs, but the Packers would need him to clear waivers first.
