The Green Bay Packers could go in a number of directions in the early rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, they should avoid these three prospects.

General manager Brian Gutekunst has pulled off a few surprises in recent years, most notably trading up for quarterback Jordan Love.

Whether Gutekunst finally addresses wide receiver in the first round or opts for the more familiar approach of strengthening the defense is anyone's guess. But here are three players the Packers should avoid in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers is one of the most exciting playmakers in the class, and he could make this take look terrible a year from now.

However, the Packers typically have size and athletic thresholds at wide receiver, and there's good reason for that. It's not often Green Bay drafts receivers below 6 feet or under 190 pounds.

Gutekunst has drafted seven wide receivers during his time as GM. Six were at least 6-foot-2, and all of them were 190+ pounds.

The other was Amari Rodgers. Rodgers is 5-foot-9, 212 pounds, and has a Relative Athletic Score of 5.37 out of 10. The Packers traded up for Rodgers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but the move backfired, as Rodgers was released in only his second season.

There's no doubting Flowers' athleticism. However, at 5-foot-9, 182 pounds, he doesn't meet the Packers' size thresholds. And that matters in Green Bay.

"Having 29.25-inch arms is a tough sell at the NFL level. That gives quarterbacks such a small margin for error," wrote Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus.

Flowers could become a dominant offensive playmaker in the NFL, but the Packers would have to find the perfect role for him. Drafting Flowers comes with risk, and the Packers shouldn't be the team to do it.
