The Green Bay Packers will be pleased to see Dalvin Cook leave the Minnesota Vikings.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings will release Cook on Friday if they are unable to make a trade before then. This is significant news in the NFC North.

Cook has enjoyed some dominant performances against the Packers over the years, including putting up 226 total yards and four touchdowns at Lambeau Field in 2020.

With Cook's departure from the Vikings confirmed, the question is now where he will end up. There are some teams the Packers would prefer he didn't sign with, and also a couple of best-case scenarios.

Packers hope Dalvin Cook doesn't sign with Cowboys

The Packers could compete with the Dallas Cowboys for a wild-card berth this season. The NFC North is wide open, although the Detroit Lions are projected by many to win the division. The Cowboys will compete in the NFC East, but finishing ahead of the defending-champion Philadelphia Eagles won't be easy.

Dallas signing Cook would give it arguably the best running back duo in football. A combination of Cook and Tony Pollard is as good as any in the league.

In an offense already featuring Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Brandin Cooks, this would be bad news for the Packers and the rest of the NFC.

Cook leaving the Vikings helps the Packers, but they won't want him to sign with an NFC rival.
