4 Packers who won't make the 53-man roster: OL Royce Newman

Another recent draft pick will face competition this summer. Royce Newman started 16 games as a rookie but saw his snap counts reduced dramatically in his second season after a number of disappointing performances.

Working in Newman's favor is his ability to play at multiple positions. However, the Packers have good depth across the offensive line, and Newman will need to play a lot better to regain the trust of the coaching staff to play significant snaps.

At tackle, Green Bay has David Bakhtiari, Yosh Nijman, and Zach Tom as its top three. Elgton Jenkins can also play there. Newman's best position is guard, but he faces competition from Jenkins, Jon Runyan Jr., Tom, and Jake Hanson.

Brian Gutekunst has added at least one offensive lineman in every draft. He has selected nine offensive linemen over his past three draft classes. He could add another two or three linemen in this year's draft, and he typically prefers players with positional versatility.

If Green Bay selects a tackle in the early rounds like Paris Johnson Jr. or Darnell Wright, then another versatile lineman on Day 3, where does that leave Newman?

If the Packers continue to strengthen their depth along the offensive line, Newman will face competition for a roster spot. He will need an excellent summer to guarantee his place on the Packers' 53 for the upcoming season.
