2. Brian Branch, S, Detroit Lions

Making this even more interesting is that the Detroit Lions traded up with the Green Bay Packers to land Alabama's Brian Branch. Safety was also a need for the Packers. Had they wanted to, Green Bay could've just stayed at No. 45 and picked Branch.

Instead, GM Brian Gutekunst believed the right call was to trade down, allowing the Lions to jump up and select Branch.

The Packers traded down twice in minutes, picks that eventually led to them selecting Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Karl Brooks, so they are probably more than happy with that.

However, they now have to play against Branch twice a season.

"Branch was a playmaking slot cornerback for the Tide. He is outstanding against the run, quick to key and fill for tackles," wrote NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah.

Branch can line up across the defensive backfield, although his best role may be slot corner. The Lions have significantly improved their secondary by drafting Branch and signing C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

While the Packers will be happy enough with their double trade-down, they have made life more difficult for Jordan Love when he comes up against the Lions' defense this season. Branch is an excellent pick for the Lions.
