June 1 is a significant date in the NFL offseason. Many teams wait until after this deadline to release or trade players for salary cap purposes. There are several players the Green Bay Packers could consider moving on from beyond this date.

So, why is June 1 significant?

It all comes down to cap hits. By releasing or trading a player before June 1, all of the dead money the team is left with goes onto the current year's salary cap. By moving on after June 1, that number is split across two years.

The Packers' decision to trade Aaron Rodgers before June 1 meant taking on a cap hit of $40.31 million this year, but his contract will come off the books entirely in 2024. Had they waited until after June 1, it would've split the dead cap across two years.

Now that we have arrived at this important offseason date, which players could the Packers move on from? All contract and salary cap numbers in this article are according to Over The Cap.

Packers could cut or trade De'Vondre Campbell

While unlikely, it's not impossible the Packers could move on from De'Vondre Campbell. We shouldn't expect anything in the near future, but during the season? Possibly.

If the Packers find themselves out of playoff contention, an option could be to think long-term with their salary cap. Campbell's cap hits for the next three seasons are above $12 million with a high of $14.41 million in 2024. Releasing Campbell would be a way to reduce future cap hits.

If Quay Walker makes significant progress in year two, the Packers could confidently move forward with their former first-round pick. Isaiah McDuffie would step into the number two role.
