Had it not been for off-the-field issues, Brenton Cox Jr. likely would've been drafted. Instead, the Packers signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Talent isn't the concern. Cox made eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss in 13 games for Florida in 2021. He was a five-star recruit. The concern is that he was kicked out of two programs at Georgia and Florida.

But if Cox has put that behind him and can learn from it, he can become a valuable addition to the Packers' pass rush.

"Cox Jr. routinely showcased an intriguing combination of size, athleticism, and speed while being a high-end performer in the SEC. Cox Jr. possesses the type of traits NFL teams covet in a developmental edge defender," writes Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Matt LaFleur named Cox as a player he had been impressed with during the offseason workout program, which is an encouraging sign.

Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Lukas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, and Justin Hollins are ahead of him on the depth chart, but there's no reason why Cox can't land a roster spot ahead of Jonathan Garvin and La'Darius Hamilton.

Cox has the potential to become an excellent player. If he continues to impress at training camp, a roster spot could be his.
