5 free agents Packers should sign after NFL Draft: TE Marcedes Lewis

It may seem counterproductive to re-sign Marcedes Lewis after drafting Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft on Day 2 of the draft. But the opposite can be true. Lewis could actually help the Packers' young tight ends while giving the offense some much-needed experience.

Green Bay has a new-look receiving corps. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, Dontayvion Wicks, and Grant DuBose are all 24 years old or younger. They all lack experience in the NFL.

That's where Lewis can come in. Not only is he still one of the league's best blocking tight ends, which would help the offense this year, but he is also a great leader in the locker room and has 17 years and 221 career starts to draw from.

His presence in the tight end room would help Musgrave and Kraft make the challenging adjustment from the college game. He can show them the way. David Bakhtiari joined an offensive line with veterans T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton, and Bryan Bulaga.

Jordy Nelson got to learn from Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. Then, years later, Davante Adams would learn from Nelson and Randall Cobb.

Having a player with Lewis' experience would help a young offense, and he can still play at a high level.
