5 takeaways from Day 1 of Packers training camp
- Jordan Love update
- Zach Tom to start?
- Jonathan Garvin switches positions
4. Packers injury updates
According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the Packers were without six players for the first day of training camp: safeties Tariq Carpenter and Tarvarius Moore, tackle Caleb Jones, edge rusher Rashan Gary, cornerback Eric Stokes, and wide receiver Grant DuBose.
Gary and Stokes begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, although the Packers are optimistic that they will both be ready to return in the coming weeks.
Carpenter, Moore, and Jones missed practice due to illness, so the hope is they won't miss too much time.
The one concern is with rookie wide receiver Grant DuBose, who is dealing with a back injury. DuBose missed valuable practice time during the offseason workout program, and he can't afford to lose too many reps at training camp.
It isn't easy to make that time up later on. Getting reps on the practice field is so important for rookies. Hopefully, DuBose makes a speedy recovery and can get some playing time in the preseason. If not, it's hard to imagine how DuBose will have a realistic shot at making the 53-man roster. But it's early days, and there's still plenty of time to come in the next month.
