3. Sean Clifford doesn't make the Packers roster

Sean Clifford is another Day 3 rookie vying for a roster spot. But the Packers continue to add veterans to the quarterback room, which increases the pressure on Clifford to perform well in the coming weeks.

Even if the Packers believe in Clifford in the years to come, is he ready for a No. 2 job now?

Remember that Jordan Love, the player the Packers traded up to draft 26th overall in 2020, sat behind Tim Boyle in his rookie season. If Love wasn't ready to back up Aaron Rodgers in his first year, why would Clifford be any different?

Green Bay already had Danny Etling on the roster. It has since added USFL MVP Alex McGough and worked out former fourth-round pick Jacob Eason this week.

The Packers are unlikely to keep more than two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Clifford would benefit from a year on the practice squad, but the Packers would have to waive him and hope another team doesn't put in a claim. That cost them Taysom Hill in 2017.

But the Packers need their backup quarterback to be ready for the role. They are already exploring their options by working out Eason, and bringing in another veteran wouldn't be surprising.
