7 Packers on the hot seat ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft
3. Packers guard Sean Rhyan
The third round hasn't been kind to the Packers. Prior to last year's draft, Brian Gutekunst's previous third-round choices were Oren Burks, Jace Sternberger, Josiah Deguara, and Amari Rodgers. The Packers hoped UCLA offensive lineman Sean Rhyan would finally end the team's bad luck in the third round.
But it couldn't have gone much worse for Rhyan in year one. Active for just one game with one special teams snap all season, Rhyan didn't help his chances of making the 2023 roster by getting suspended for the final six games of last season.
Unless Rhyan shows significant improvements in the summer, it's hard to see how he makes the 53. He didn't get many first-team reps during training camp, and this continued into the regular season as he was inactive for all but one game.
The Packers already have solid guard depth, and it's an area they could continue to strengthen in the 2023 NFL Draft.
However, the good news is that Rhyan will have a chance to prove himself over the summer. To put his rookie season behind him and show what he can do. He offers the versatility to play multiple positions, which helps.
Hopefully, Rhyan will take a big step in year two. But he will face competition for a roster spot.
