8 Packers players (and coaches) that will not be back in 2024
Jon Runyan Jr.
Jon Runyan Jr. has been a solid starter along the Packers' offensive line in previous years, but his performances have declined dramatically this season. Runyan is particularly struggling as a run blocker.
On one play against the Minnesota Vikings last week, Runyan appeared to block the wrong player. As the offensive line shifted to the left, Runyan moved right and crashed into Zach Tom, leaving an unblocked defender. After the play, you can see Tom pointing in the direction Runyan was supposed to go.
Yes, that's only one play, but it's a consistent theme for this entire offensive line, including Runyan. Packer Report's Andy Herman gave Runyan one of Green Bay's worst three offensive grades in Week 8. Unfortunately, it's not the first time this season.
Runyan's rookie deal expires at the end of the season. He needs to show significant improvements in the second half of the year to have any realistic shot of landing a new deal. Green Bay's offensive line needs several reinforcements in the offseason. Runyan has played at a decent level before, but his run-blocking is a major concern this year. The Packers may have no choice but to replace him in the upcoming offseason.
