Aaron Rodgers handing off to Dalvin Cook is going to be so weird
Aaron Rodgers had the pain of watching helplessly from the sideline as Dalvin Cook destroyed the Green Bay Packers defense time and time again.
Cook had a phenomenal record against the Packers, putting up 911 total yards and nine touchdowns in nine games.
Now, Rodgers and Cook join forces for the New York Jets. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Jets have signed Cook to a one-year deal.
Two former division rivals become teammates in New York, and it's another sign that the Jets are doing everything they can to build a dominant offense around Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers handing off to former Packers rival is going to be so weird
The New York Packers are adding a former division rival.
Rodgers will throw passes to Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb and hand the ball off to Cook. It's going to be a strange season for Packers fans every time they turn on a Jets game.
It's also a smart move by the Jets and only helps their Super Bowl chances. Even if Cook isn't the dominant Pro Bowl running back he once was, he is still coming off four straight 1,000-yard seasons. Since 2019, Cook has rushed for 5,024 yards and 43 touchdowns.
He joins a backfield with young star Breece Hall.
All the Jets need is an offensive line. That's the number one issue for Rodgers' new team. And, who knows, maybe the Packers could help Rodgers one last time.
Green Bay has plenty of talented tackles. David Bakhtiari is still an outstanding pass protector when healthy. Yosh Nijman would start for most teams, but not Green Bay. Second-year Rasheed Walker has also impressed this summer, earning first-team reps.
Perhaps the Packers could make another deal with the Jets.
But that's a conversation for another day. The Jets continue to build an all-star NFC North team around Rodgers. His former division rival is now a teammate, and it's going to be weird to watch as Packers fans.
